Free Space Optics is data communications technology using lasers, which transmit and receive data via ‘line of sight’ paths from one "Link Head" to another. The system employed consists of individual modules, for transmit, receive and interface, some of which were based on old technology. Northern Hi-Tec has provided redesign and re-engineering services for both the electronics and the mechanics, which has resulted in significant cost reductions across the module range and has lead to improved product quality and reliability.

The end solution has provided the client with a much more competitive and reliable finished product, which is continually improving their market share.
